David Bismuth, Piano

Designated by Pianiste magazine as one of the ten most gifted French pianists of his generation, David Bismuth is praised by critics for his luminous and profound playing,

where the science of architecture and the poetry of timbre are combined.

In 2017, two new albums were added to his discography: the first for solo piano, dedicated to “Beethoven and his masters”, published by AmeSon (”ffff” by Télérama). The second, “Paris 1900”, in duo with violinist Geneviève Laurenceau, published by Naïve.

David Bismuth also made his orchestral debut in Russia under the direction of Yuri Bashmet.

In recent seasons, David Bismuth has performed with the Orchestre de Paris (Salle Pleyel), the Orchestre National de France (Théâtre du Châtelet), the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse or the Orchestre de Nice, under the direction of conductors such as Andris Nelsons, Jaap van Zweden, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Cornelius Meister, Michel Plasson or Rinaldo Alessandrini.

He has also participated in numerous festivals: La Roque d’Anthéron, Radio France – Montpellier, Piano aux Jacobins, Nohant Festival Chopin, La Chaise Dieu, Colmar, Saintes, Menton, Piano in Lyon, L’Esprit du piano in Bordeaux, La Folle Journée (Nantes and Warsaw), the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the BBC Hay Festival, the Palazzetto Bru Zane in Venice or Villa Medici in Rome, Dom Muzyki in Moscow…

A sought-after chamber musician, he shares the stage with pianists Bertrand Chamayou and Adam Laloum, violinist Geneviève Laurenceau and cellist Camille Thomas, and partners for reading concerts with Alain Duault or actor Didier Sandre.

Giving pride of place to French music, David Bismuth’s discography is now rich in numerous recordings, including several mirrors by composers such as Franck and Fauré, Debussy and Dukas, or Rachmaninov and Saint-Saëns (**** Classica). Let us also mention his records B.A.C.H.H.ianas & Transcriptions (”ffff” by Télérama), the Bach album Père et Fils (Pianist “Maestro”) and the CD Made in France, recorded alongside clarinettist Pierre Génisson and awarded a Diapason d’Or.

Initially trained by Catherine Collard at the Conservatoire de Nice, David Bismuth joined the CNSMD in Paris at the age of fourteen, in the class of Gabriel Tacchino and Brigitte Engerer. He then perfected his skills with Monique Deschaussées, heiress to Alfred Cortot, and Maria João Pires, whose meeting enriched and inspired him greatly, both artistically and humanely. Since then, the two artists have had the opportunity to perform with four hands and two pianos. David Bismuth was his assistant for several years at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel in Belgium, where he remains Associate Artist.

In addition, he gives numerous masterclasses each year, notably in Russia, as part of the “Educational Centers for Musicians” led by violist and conductor Yuri Bashmet.
