A symphonic and romantic journey

For his first visit to Colmar, Kazuki Yamada and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra invite us on a superb musical journey to the heart of Central Europe! An absolute masterpiece of the Romantic concerto repertoire, Brahms's Piano Concerto No. 2 is a vast fresco of the human soul. The composer allows himself marvellous freedom here, dividing the work into four movements instead of the canonical three, daring to be both intimate and grandiose... This will also be an opportunity for us to hear one of the greatest pianists of our time: the Macedonian Simon Trpčeski.

In the second half, we head for the banks of the Danube, for a fine tribute to Czech music with two of its greatest geniuses: Smetana and Dvořák.

Sárka, another part of this cycle of symphonic poems, tells the story of a Czech heroine who avenges the death of Queen Libuše by infiltrating the enemy camp. From the latter, it is the flamboyant Carnival Overture that Kazuki Yamada and the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra have chosen to present.

Johannes Brahms, Concerto for piano and orchestra No. 2 in B flat major, Op. 83
