La Monnaie, entre Seine et fjords: Alain Altinoglu
For this second evening with his La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra, Alain Altinoglu offers us a programme of French music and THE hit of Nordic music.
From the theatrical brilliance of Berlioz“s Roman Carnival to the lyrical and virtuoso élan of Saint-Saëns” Cello Concerto No. 1, this concert displays a wide range of colours and emotions.
This will be an opportunity to welcome back Edgar Moreau, one of the most brilliant cellists of his generation and a regular at the festival, whose playing combines dramatic intensity with inner song.
Mirroring this, Peer Gynt transports us to a Nordic imaginary world that Grieg shapes based on Ibsen's poetic drama, enriched here by the luminous voice of Norwegian soprano Sofia Nesje Enger: a journey of contrasts, from the whisper of the soul to dramatic heartbreak.

Hector Berlioz: Roman Carnival, Op. 9
